So… apparently parents are the biggest reason women go into porn. And it’s because they were shitty parents (OR, the biggest cop out of all – they were good parents, but not good enough).

This line “In fact, these are the reasons why your daughter wants to be a porn star.” makes me wanna scream.

I had zero of these issues. My parents and I had a typical hot/cold teenage experience, like *all* parents deal with.

But the parts that make me *really really* mad, are these:

1) She’s trying to say that *THESE* particular things are what make us decide to get into porn. It couldn’t possibly be anything else. Even with the quote

Quote:

“The truth about pornography is that the motivations that cause a young woman to enter or exit the business are as complex as is the brain that makes the decision. Whittling cause and effect down to a single reason — number eight! No! Four! Wait, nine sounds good — is tantamount to trying to explain why someone decided to become a neuroscientist. “

she’s still attaching it all to the idea that these reasons are the ONLY reasons why women choose pornography.

2) It takes an already exhausting and taxing job of being a parent and makes it worse. Thinking you are personally responsible for the decision of your child to get into any career you may not approve of is just ludicrous.

3) This quote:

Quote:

An 18-year-old girl’s career choice to go into porn isn’t entirely attributable to her parents just like an 18-year-old boy’s career choice to become a neuroscientist isn’t entirely attributable to his.

Wait… WHAT? Why are sons being brought into this at ALL? And why, of all fucking things, are you eluding the idea that only boys would choose to be neuroscientists??

This article is just rage inducing to me. While it has a handful of good points about parenting as a whole (Pay attention to your kid, don’t let the tv raise them, teach them right from wrong, be their parent not their friend, and have open lines of communication) the overall conjecture is just fucking ludicrous.

If a porn star leaves the industry, and was mistreated while she worked in the industry, I can understand being jaded. It’s like any career. But for fuck sake, don’t throw the industry under a bus just because your parents sucked, or you found God. It’s disgusting, and way more degrading than the porn that you greatly enjoyed while you were doing it. And certainly don’t use the barely casual “evidence” you’ve gotten from non-numerical “quite a few girls” who’ve left the business as your proof that all people in porn do it because they had a shitty childhood.

Also, why didn’t she touch on guys who work in porn *at all*. That annoys me just as much.
