Let us, for a moment, set aside the fact that this country is not, and will never be, a Christian nation as defined by the Treaty of Tripoli, and that your assertion that gay marriage should not be allowed because “God” is rendered moot.

Lets work off the (albeit ridiculous) idea that something should be illegal or not granted equal protection and equal rights, simply because your chosen flavor of Christianity deems it such. The very verse that you will use as your defense as to why it is “wrong” (and should, apparently, be not allowed) appears in Leviticus. Let’s meander a bit further into this chapter of the bible, shall we?

Leviticus 19:19: Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material.

Why are you not attempting to outlaw those very suits you wear when you go to work? Is it not equally important as lambasting two men who lay together? And if not? Why not? It’s in the same chapter, right? How can this particular verse be deemed ok, but homosexuality be condemned?

Leviticus 11:7: And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be clovenfooted, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you.

Have you tried outlawing pork? I can only assume you probably had some pretty decent pork chops or bacon recently. And even if you haven’t, why are you not trying to take this unclean animal off the tables of “good” people everywhere?

Leviticus 19:27: Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard.

Whoa! You are a clean shaven man! How can you be so bold as to claim previous verses in the bible in this VERY CHAPTER are proof of the condemnation of homosexuals, when you, yourself, shave your beard off?

This all, of course, is discounting the very fact that the old testament “laws” are null & void in Christianity:

Galatians 3:13-14: Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.”¹⁴ He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.

Remember that whole “Jesus died for your sins” bit? Yea, that renders the old testament useless when attempting to enforce your personal religious views as law. In fact, it’s reprehensible according to your own bible:

Galatians 5:1: It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

So, again I ask, how do you deem it fit to attempt to impose your personal religious beliefs (which aren’t those of actual Christianity) without ALSO attempting to impose every other verse of Leviticus – let alone any of the rest of the old testament? Who are you to decide what is or isn’t allowed? Hell, even SCOTLAND, one of the most Catholic countries in the world, has legalized gay marriage. How can we possibly call ourselves a “FREE NATION”, free from religious persecution & the free to pursue happiness, with this kind of ridiculous stuff going on?

And before it’s even remotely hinted towards: No, giving two consenting adults the same rights & protections that you currently exercise with no hindrance whatsoever is NOT the same as being unable to join the NFL. You are, in fact, free to attempt to join the NFL, while non-straight couples are relegated to having their relationships be deemed illegal & unable to exercise the very same rights you already possess.

You sir, are a mockery of what this country is about, a mockery of what Christianity is, and a mockery of a person in general. It’s pretty sad when an atheist knows more about your religion than you do.
